If we go by definition, there is an element in machine which compels relative motion so as to provide desired motion and helps to reduce friction caused due to movement in machine parts. As the name implies, double row taper roller bearing has a double row or double cup outer ring in the design. It has also two numbers of inner fitted ring with cage assembly and roller. Usually the structure is provided with one intermediate ring fitted in between two inner ring. The roller rows arrangement is in back to back type that supports any stiff arrangement and also accommodates significant tilting event.

It is the design of the bearing, that helps to accommodate heavy type of radial load as well as axial load present in both the directions. The Double Row Tapered type of roller bearing is broadly used in hoisting equipment, gearboxes, mining industry machine, rolling mill etc.

There are a few bearings that has tapered bore and in that inner ring is at all times mounted along interference fit. A taper lock bearing design is mainly for accommodating transfer of the load evenly across while the rolling is in the process. the bearing possesses higher degree of radial load so it can handle any type of heavy-duty operation just because of their reliability quality.

The way of functioning of a tapered lock bearing is that it can freely roll over across the joining surface of hub and shaft. This prevents heat, grinding in between metal, friction, and wear during the movement. Taper lock bearing is advantageous as compared to plain bearing in terms of installation. One of the important aspects to be considered while installing this type of bearing is to ensure running clearance is measured accurately, otherwise the bearing will fail prematurely as it can get very loose.
